The Wine Down

It’s back!  The Wine Down presented by Charles Smith Wines returns for a sixth year with six more evenings of free music and bites, plus local pop-up shops and, of course, wine.  The 2018 series at 3TEN Austin City Limits Live (3TEN ACL Live) continues previous partnerships with the 2ND Street District, Visit Austin, and KUTX, with proceeds once again benefitting the Austin Music Foundation.

The Wine Down presented by Charles Smith Wines provides happiest of happy hours from 5PM-8PM on the last Wednesday of each month, April through September.  The 2018 series finds its home at 3TEN ACL Live once more, located below Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater on Willie Nelson Boulevard in the heart of downtown Austin.  This free celebration of local culture invites Austinites to experience an evening in the 2ND Street District with music, bites, and shopping from some of our favorite spots.

“The Wine Down series is a great event for the 2nd Street District – it’s provides an opportunity for Austinites and tourists to hear local bands and try local food for free. We want everyone to experience downtown Austin – and all that is amazing here. This event makes that possible. ” said Caitlin McConnell, Retail Manager of 2ND Street District.

Each month, a different restaurant from 2ND Street District will provide food samples while guests enjoy free tastings and happy hour priced glasses featuring Charles Smith Wines. Each evening’s entertainment will be emceed by KUTX D.J.s and will feature pop-up shops from local retailers.  Austin Music Foundation presents both the opening event on April 25th, and the closing event on September 26th in a special celebration of their contribution to the development of Austin artists and the local music community.

“AMF is thrilled to partner with our friends at ACL Live for a fifth year and grateful to be invited back as the beneficiary of the Wine Down,” says the Austin Music Foundation’s Jennifer Dugas of this year’s continued partnership.  “We have a shared love of bringing community together to support and celebrate local music. This year 3TEN ACL Live generously offered AMF the opportunity to choose and present our favorite bands for both the series opening and finale, which is very special for us.”

The Wine Down presented by Charles Smith Wines is free and open to the public from 5PM-8PM the last Wednesday of the month, April through September at 3TEN ACL Live.  For more information, please visit

Charles Smith is a former rock band manager who developed a passion for making wine. Self-taught and somewhat of a renegade, Charles is the only winemaker to be named “Winemaker of the Year” twice.  His award-winning wines come from sustainably farmed vineyards in Washington State, and there’s a story behind each label in the collection:  Kung Fu Girl Riesling, Eve Chardonnay, The Velvet Devil Merlot, Chateau Smith Cabernet Sauvignon, Boom Boom! Syrah and the newest addition, Band of Roses Rosé.
